About Ford Crown Victoria

The Ford Crown Victoria, also known as Crown Vic, as a full-size rear-wheel sedan, was produced by the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company from 1991 to 2011. The first Crown Vic moniker appeared on a high-line trim level for a full-size LTD sedan, it is designed to replace the Ford LTD Crown Victoria for the 1992 model year though. Built at the Ford Panther platform and shared major powertrain, body and suspension components with the Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis, the Ford Crown Victoria had been manufactured through two generations and got replaced by Ford Taurus hereafter.
In March 1991 for the 1992 model year, the Ford LTD Crown Victoria dropped the LTD prefix to make the first-generation model (1992-1997). It was offered in base, LX, P71 (standard long-wheelbase, exclusively for law-enforcement) and Touring Sedan (performance-oriented flagship trim level) trim levels. The Ford Crown Victoria then was powered by a 4.6 L SOHC Modular V8 engine paired with 4-speed automatic transmissions. The second and final generation model (1998-2012) was released in 1997. New trim LX Sport replaced the LX HPP (Handling and Performance Package) and in North American, it was available in new LX Premium Sport and Handling package. The powertrain was basically carried over from the previous generation and the Ford Crown Victoria rolled off the assembly line on September 15, 2011.

Ford Crown Victoria Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Though due to durability and cost-efficiency, the Ford Crown Victoria is quite popular with cab companies, police departments and fleet operators, it is also well received by the public. If you happen to also own a Ford Crown Victoria, then you had better learn about these issues in advance:
First, transmission and suspension failures. An undeniable fact on Ford models is the transmission system is relatively vulnerable, without exception for this model. Some drivers expressed complaints about indicator did not match the gear they were in, and sometimes the key would get stuck in the ignition so that vehicle could not be turned off. And the most terrible situation is the vehicle started in another gear but not the gear they expected, or vehicle refused to go into any gear. The shift cable is often the culprits. As for suspension failure, you should keep a close eye on the shock absorbers.
Second, engine failure. Besides above issues, this issue ranked third among all issues according to the data showing at the car repair statistics site Some Crown Victoria drivers said when starting the vehicle, they could hear ticking or clanking noise from the cylinder head, and then the engine would be in rough idle, backfire even misfire. Once you notice the Check Engine Light is activated and your vehicle is suffering from reduced power and decreased gas mileage, you should inspect the rocker arm, exhaust valve, intake valve, rod bearing and spark plug in a minute.
In order to maintain your vehicle's overall exceptional quality, routine maintenance on some vulnerable parts is essential. Some electrical parts are fairly easy to go wrong as the accumulation of frequency of usage. Thus, the front door striker, rear door striker, A/C switch, cruise control switch, throttle position sensor and oil pressure switch should be maintained on a regular basis.
A principle you have to stick to is never taking a risk on aftermarket parts. OEM Ford Crown Victoria parts and accessories have greater assurance in quality, reliability and durability.
