About Lincoln LS

As the domestic answer to the premium mid-size sedans from Europe's luxury brands, the Lincoln LS was built by the Lincoln Motor Company, which is a division of the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company that sells luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand, between 1999 and 2006 as a mid-size luxury car. Originally introduced to compete against the Subaru Legacy, Volvo S60 and Lexus IS 350, the LS shared the Ford DEW98 platform with the Jaguar S-Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Being named as Car of the Year by Motor Trend Magazine, earning double 5-star frontal safety ratings from the federal government and Best Pick from the Insurance for Highway Safety, the LS was still replaced by the Lincoln Zephyr after being manufactured for two generations.
The first-generation model was produced from 1999 to 2002 and made its debut in 1999 for the 2000 model year. It was offered in only one body style, a 4-door sedan but it came in two trim levels: base LS, LS6, LS8 and LSE (Limited Special Edition). During this generation, the Lincoln LS was powered by either a 3.0 L V6 rated at 210-220 horsepower and 205-215 lb-ft of torque or a 3.9 L V8 producing 252 hp and 267 pound-feet of torque. Both engines sent power through either 5-speed manual or automatic transmissions to the rear wheels. The more recent model received its major fresh for the 2003 model year. Trim levels were carried over, so were the engine options. But the 3.0 L V6 could produce 232 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque and the 3.9 L V8 has an output of 280 horsepower and 286 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission was available as well.

Offering rear-wheel-drive configuration and well-tuned suspension, the Lincoln LS is very entertaining to drive on road. But it is never a totally trouble-free vehicle, for your safety, you had better be informed about these common problems:
First, engine failure resulting from the cooling system failure is reported as the most serious and common problem that drivers have ever met. Most people have not realized that cooling system is closely related to the engine performance, one goes wrong, the other will also get in trouble. According to some drivers, when the coolant starts to leak, they have to add coolant more frequently but still, the engine temperature stays high, and gradually, the engine suffers from performance issues such as running roughly, misfiring, stalling, hard starting and even no start. Apart from vehicle loses power while acceleration and consumes excessive oil could be seen as the engine failure signs, strange sounds from the engine and illuminated Check Engine Light are more obvious warnings for you to inspect the radiator hose, thermostat gasket, coolant reservoir, valve cover gasket, thermostat housing, intake manifold gasket, thermostat, cooling hose, timing chain tensioner and timing belt tensioner thoroughly immediately.
Second, suspension failure is another issue for Lincoln LS drivers since its seriousness is never lower than the engine failure. At first, you may not care about the clunking and grinding noises from underneath the vehicle and though it is the rock that rubs the tire. After a while, you will find the tire wear becomes uneven and excessive, your vehicle tilts to one side. Finally, you feel hard to control the vehicle due to intense car vibration, unintentional steering and loose steering wheel, and danger comes. In case the worst situation appears, please make sure the trailing arm, coil springs, air suspension, sway bar link, control arm and sway bar link are always in good condition.
Meanwhile, always taking performing routine maintenance on vulnerable auto parts on your vehicle seriously.
