About Lincoln Mark VII

Previously known as Lincoln Continental Mark VII and being a part of the Lincoln Mark Series, the Lincoln Mark VII was built by the Lincoln Motor Company, which is a division of the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company that sells luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand, between 1986 and April 1992 as a personal luxury car. Originally introduced as Continental Mark VII to replace the Lincoln Continental Mark VI, the Mark VII was raced in the Trans-Am Series and on Car and Driver Magazine's Ten Best List. But still after being manufactured for about six years, the last Mark VII rolled off the assembly line on April 22, 1992, and it was replaced by Lincoln Mark III eventually.
The Lincoln Mark VII made its debut in the 1986 model year when the Lincoln integrated the Continental Mark Series into the Lincoln brand after being a sub-marque for 18 years. It was offered in only one body style, 2-door coupe but it came in two trim levels: Base and LSC (Luxury Sport Coupe) as well as a Bill Blass Edition and LSC SE (Special Edition). For 1990 model year, the Mark VII received a driver-side airbag and three-point seatbelts as well as redesigned dashboard and interior controls. During its lifetime, the Lincoln Mark VII was powered by either a 5.0 L V8 rated at 140-225 hp and 250-300 lb-ft of torque or a 2.4 L I6 cranking out 115 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque and both engines sent power through the 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels.

Lincoln Mark VII Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Offering a lengthy standard equipment list and being many firsts in equipment, the Lincoln Mark VII is a quite good choice for people needing a family car. But taking your vehicle’s age into account, you may realize these common problems will appear:
First, stalling at cold start and backfiring when acceleration is the worst issue that they have ever meet during driving. Generally speaking, when the Mark VII reaches about 175,000 miles, this issue will emerge, which is obviously an engine problem. I believe every driver has attached enough importance to the engine and that is why some of them concluded these recognizable and simple symptoms of this issue to help others diagnose and solve it as early as possible. It often includes strange sounds such as squealing and whining from the engine; roughly-running, misfiring and stalling engine; and a decrease in power and fuel economy as well as illuminated Check Engine Light. All these could be attributed to the spark plug, oxygen sensors, drive belt, oil filter, air filter, fuel pump, engine mount and body control module.
Second, the suspension failure on Lincoln Mark VII is also a troublesome issue as drivers complained that it often arises unexpectedly. Many drivers may not care about the grinding or clunking noises coming from underneath the vehicle and they thought that is not a big deal. But in fact, after a long time, the tire wear will become uneven and excessive. Eventually, you will feel difficult in handling due to the vehicle also tends to tilt to one side caused by uneven tire wear. The intense car vibration, swerving or nosing diving when braking, unintentional steering and loose steering wheel will only deteriorate your problem. Thus, please make sure the wheel bearing, shock absorber, sway bar bushing, control arm bushing, and sway bar bracket.
Performing routine maintenance on some vulnerable auto parts on your vehicle is believed to be an effective way to extend your Mark VII's life expectancy. Some parts could not last as long as the vehicle could, you need to put the seat belt, windshield wiper, wiper blade, fog light, headlight, antenna and cabin air filter as they all play important roles in creating safe and comfortable driving environment and work under harsh working conditions all the time.
