About Lincoln MKS

As Lincoln's effort to gain back its territory in luxury sedan segment, Lincoln MKS was built by the Lincoln Motor Company, which is a division of the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company that sells luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand, between May 2008 and 2016 as a full-size luxury car. Originally introduced to compete against the Volvo S80, Infiniti Q70L and Lexus GS 200t, MKS shared the platform with the six-generation Ford Taurus. But after being manufactured for only one generation, the production of MKS ended due to declining sales over the 2010s and MKS was replaced by the Lincoln Continental in 2016 model year.
Lincoln MKS made its debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as a concept car and was introduced to the public at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It went on sale in the summer of 2008 as a 2009 model and was offered in only one body style, 4-door sedan. MKS came in three trim levels: Base, Base AWD and EcoBoost. A facelifted MKS debuted at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show, and during its lifetime, MKS was powered by a standard 3.7 L V6 rated at 273-304 hp and a 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 cranking out 355-365 horsepower, and both engines sent power through 6-speed automatic transmissions to the front wheels or four wheels.

Lincoln MKS Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Boasting roomy and comfortable cabin as well as a bevy of standard and optional features, Lincoln MKS succeeds in appealing to some car enthusiasts. But considering it is a steel-made item, you had better be known of these common problems on MKS in advance:
First, transmission and braking failures are what Lincoln MKS drivers feel the trickiest to handle with. Transmission failure could result in drivability issue while braking failure could lead to safety issue. According to MKS drivers, there are clunking and rattling sounds from underneath the vehicle warn them of transmission failure. And the leaking transmission fluids, difficulty shifting gears, indicator not matching the gear, vehicle not turning off, starting in another gear or refusing to go into any gear are also signs for you to inspect the MKS transfer case, transfer case seal, transmission assembly, automatic transmission shifter, automatic transmission filter, and shift cable. As for braking failure, please pay more attention to the working condition of MKS brake pad set, brake disc, brake drum, brake caliper, parking brake cable, brake line and brake proportioning valve.
Second, shutting down while driving is an issue that appears when the Lincoln MKS reaches at about 16,500 miles. This is obviously an engine issue, which also could bring destructive result to your vehicle. The sooner and earlier you solve it, the safer your driving will be. Based on some MKS drivers' experience, this issue also shows some symptoms such as whining or squealing noises from the engine and burning oil odor in the compartment. Then the engine performs worse, it misfires, stalls and even suffers from starting issues. The vehicle also loses power while acceleration and consumes excessive oil. As soon as the Check Engine Light comes on, you need to inspect the MKS spark plug, engine mount, engine control module, oil filter, air filter and fuel pump.
A safe and comfortable driving trip depends on every part on your Lincoln MKS plays their roles well, which means you need to practice routine maintenance on some vulnerable parts since some of them could not last as long as the vehicle could due to fragile materials and harsh working conditions. For your safe and comfortable ride, you need to add MKS seat belt, windshield wiper, wiper blade, fog light, headlight, antenna and cabin air filter on your routine maintenance list.
