About Lincoln Town Car

As one of the most established automotive nameplates, The Lincoln Town Car was built by the Lincoln Motor Company, which is a division of the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company that sells luxury vehicles under the Lincoln brand, between 1980 and 2011 as a full-size luxury car. Originally introduced as the successor to the Lincoln Continental, the Town Car first appeared as a sub-model of the Continental and became a distinct model for 1981. Having received several awards and recognitions such as Forbes Magazine's one of the best cars to be chauffeured, and being named Motor Trend's Car of the Year award, the Town Car was eventually ended in 2011 and got replaced by Lincoln MKT and Lincoln MKT Town Car after being manufactured for three generations.
The second-generation model was produced from July 1989 to September 1997 and went on sale on October 5, 1989, as a 1990 model. It was offered in only one body style, 4-door sedan and came in three trim levels: base (renamed Executive Series), Signature Series and Cartier Designer Edition as well as Jack Nicklaus Signature Series, Regatta Edition, Spinnaker Edition, Diamond Anniversary and Cypress Edition. Being one of the best-selling full-size U.S. luxury sedans, it was powered by a 4.9 L V8 generating 150-160 hp and 270-280 lb-ft of torque and a 4.6 L V8 producing 190-210 horsepower and 265-275 pound-feet of torque, and engines sent power through 4-speed automatic transmissions. The most recent model debuted at the April 1997 New York International Auto Show as a 1998 model. Apart from trim levels carried over, Signature Series Touring, Town Car Ultimate, Signature Limited and Signature L as well as Touring, Pro Series, 25th Anniversary Edition and Continental Edition were available. The 4.6 L V8 mated to 4-speed automatic transmission was the only power source for vehicle.

Lincoln Town Car Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

Offering palatial dimension, massive trunk and soft ride, the Lincoln Town Car has always been seen as a comfortable choice for luxury transportation. But it also suffers from a weak engine, soggy handling, dated interior design and a lack of modern features, these common problems on it also deserve your attention:
First, engine failure accompanied cooling system failure troubled Lincoln Town Car drivers as they know bad and worse situations will be like. If engine failure is a bad problem, then cooling system failure will turn it into worse. Experienced drivers suggest that you can hear metallic or whining sounds from the engine, you need to be alert as next the engine will perform worse such as misfiring, stalling and even suffering from starting issues including hard starting or inability to start. And once the engine keeps overheating and stays at a high temperature due to leaking coolant, you will find the engine performance plummeting so that poor fuel economy, slow acceleration, lit Check Engine Light and Low Coolant Light will appear together. Under such circumstances, you need to inspect the spark plug, intake manifold, oil filter, fuel filter, idle control valve, coolant reservoir, and serpentine belt.
Second, for Lincoln Town Car drivers, suspension and transmission failures are also tricky to handle with as they often appear together. Both could lead to rattling or squeaking noises from underneath the vehicle, but suspension failure also could result in poor handling, intense car vibration and these could be attributed to the sway bar bushing, axle shaft, axle beam, sway bar bracket and shock absorber. While transmission failure is often caused by the transfer case seal and shift cable.
Always taking the routine maintenance on vulnerable auto parts as your job since it sometimes could be your lifesaver. Some of your Lincoln Town Car parts could not last as long as the vehicle could due to fragile materials and harsh working conditions. Therefore, please maintain the fog light bulb, wheel cover, washer reservoir, wiper pivot, trunk latch, tailgate latch, horn, windshield wiper, hood cable antenna, wiper arm and some electrical parts including fan motor, front door striker, rear door striker, door jamb switch and so on routinely.
