About Mercury Mariner

Serving as the sibling of the Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner was built by Mercury, which is a division of the great American multinational automaker Ford Motor Company that sells entry-level premium vehicles under the Mercury brand, between 2005 and 2011 as a compact luxury Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Originally introduced as a slightly more upscale twin to the Ford Escape, Mariner competed against the Subaru Forester and Chevrolet Equinox. But after being manufactured for two generations, due to declining sales and demise of Mercury brand, the production of Mariner ended in October 2010 and the last Mariner rolled off the assembly on October 5, 2010.
The first-generation Mercury Mariner was produced from 2004 to 2006 based on the Ford CD2 platform and it went on sale in 2004 as a 2005 model. As Mercury's first car-based SUV, Mariner was also offered in a Hybrid version. It came in several trim levels including base Convenience, mid-level Luxury and high-line Premiere. During this generation, Mercury Mariner was powered by either a 2.3 L I4 rated at 153 hp or a 3.0 L V6 making 200 horsepower and engines sent power through a 4-speed automatic transmission. The more recent Mariner was offered from 2008 to 2011. Only the base and more upscale Premier were available trim levels. Back then, Mariner still got power from a 2.3 L I4 and a 3.0 L V6. But the former could produce 171 hp and the latter pumped up to 240 hp. And power was sent through the 4-speed or 6-speed automatic transmission to all wheels.
